Obetz Cemetery - Obetz, Ohio

Obetz Cemetery is a place anyone on the South End of Columbus is familiar with. I didn't know a single person growing up that didn't have a family member or a friend buried here. I personally have at least half a dozen family members and a couple of friends interred here, which is what inspired me to explore this one. Located on Groveport Road about a mile from Williams Road in Downtown Obetz (if you can call it downtown), many people drive past without realizing what a rich history this cemetery has. Although it is mostly modern and still being used, there is a section behind the church that would make any local historian giddy. Buried here are the founding family and namesake of Obetz as well as many veterans, families, and workers from the Ohio & Erie Canal (see my page on Lockbourne's Locks) that helped build this quiet little town. As it is still being used, Obetz Cemetery is very well taken care of; caretakers can be seen out and about on the grounds quite frequently.

I've had many visits to this cemetery and finally decided to fully explore it. Below are pictures from almost every section of the cemetery, including a few that are very personal to me. Click around, enjoy the photos, and by all means share anything you feel is necessary by emailing me. I'm working on getting more pertinent historical information for this cemetery from both the town of Obetz and the Franklin County Historical Society. Hopefully soon I'll be able to share more with you all.
