Mt. Calvary Cemetery - Columbus, Ohio
Most known as the afterlife home of the late Bishop Watterson, Mt. Calvary cemetery is located at the intersection of Mound Street and Mt. Calvary drive. The property line butts against that of Green Lawn cemetery, and it is often confused as part of the cemetery by passers by on I-70. I visited this one in late spring of 2005 with Leo, and many of the pictures on here are his. This cemetery is still used, although rarely, as most Catholic burials now happen in St. Joseph cemetery in Lockbourne. There are several orders of nuns buried here, as well as many families. This cemetery is a bit special, like Green Lawn, as it was grandfathered into a law passed around the time of the Civil War that stated that no cemeteries could be within the city limits. Mt. Calvary was grandfathered in due to the fact that a small family cemetery existed here at the time, and was later taken over by the Catholic diocese. I've heard rumors that this one will soon have a moratorium on burials, as it is filling up and is becoming less and less popular. There is also a small jewish cemetery that is no bigger than an acre at the edge of Mt. Calvary, but as I am notorious for forgetting extra batteries, I didn't get any pictures of that one, yet.
