Ohio & Erie Canal Locks - Lockbourne, Ohio
Located on Canal Road in Lockbourne, Ohio are locks 26 and 27 of the Ohio & Erie Canal. Also located in Lockbourne, on Canal St, is lock 28, and
further down the road in Meadow Locke Park is lock 30. I haven't found Lock 29 yet, but there is a chance that it just doesn't exist anymore. Below are pictures of the locks we have explored, primarily locks 26 and 27, with a few pictures of lock 30.
To get to locks 26 and 27, take Lockbourne Road south to the end, make a left turn. Then make another left onto Canal Road. Going North, the locks will be on your left about 1/2 a mile up for the first one, and half a mile
past that is the second one. They're fairly obvious not because they're visible, but because the grass is worn away where people like to pull over.
There are no tresspassing/hunting signs on the first lock, but so long as you don't linger, the sheriff's department doesn't mind photo-taking. I went by myself recently and the Sheriff actually invited me to the station sometime to discuss the history of the area...which reminds me that I should do that soon.
To get to lock 30, take Lockbourne Rd. south to the end, and make a right. Continue down Commerce St. until you see the entrance to Meadow Locke park on your right. It's a rather small, one-lane downhill entrance next to the Soldier's memorial. There's an Ohio Historical marker out front (pictured below).
