Forest Rose Cemetery - Lancaster, Ohio
On November 25, 2004 the Grave Hoppers spent a chilly Thanksgiving day exploring cemeteries all around Lancaster, in Fairfield County. On our list was the monster of Lancaster Cemeteries, Forest Rose.
This is one of the newer cemeteries in Lancaster, although there are small pockets of older stones dating from the mid-1800s. This one is still in use, and is the closest thing to Green Lawn that I have seen thus far
in all of my explorations. This one is quite full of family plots, no matter where in the hills you venture. There are even a few artistic and original stones reminiscent of Green Lawn style.
There are many Civil War veterans in this one, and several names that are familiar throughout Lancaster, including Shumaker, Martin, Martens, McClellan, and Shellenbarger. This one is still in use,
and, like Green Lawn, seems to be expanding just a bit. This one is located on N. Columbus Street in Lancaster. For better directions, email me: Tonee_1986@yahoo.com
