The Mudsock cemetery, now the Amesville Cemetery was the first burial place for the pioneers in the lower settlement of Ames Township. Some information suggests that this cemetery started as the Brown family cemetery. Dates found on the tombstones and historical information shows that the burials began 1805-1810. Andrew Brown's records state a burial of 1805 and Polly Brown on May 1, 1810. Many, if not all, of the early pioneers who lived in the lower settlement are buried here. Some of the early family names found there are Brawley, Glazier, Wyatt, Ellis, and Henry. The earliest residents of Ames, Benjamin Brown, Ephraim Cutler, and George Ewing all moved from the area and are buried somewhere else.
