Word + Image + Sound
Blogging that last blog reminds me that I can share this:
I've just come up with a project for the middle school aged students at the James Still Learning Center where Whit works. Here it is, in five steps:
1. Do some oral history work: collect a story that happened 50+ years ago from a family or community member.
2. Turn this oral history story into a short story. Work on creative writing technique.
3. Work on reading fluency: make a digital voice recording of the short story.
4. Illustrate the story with drawing, painting, collage, etc.
5. In iMovie, combine the voice recording, scanned copies of the illustrations, and music/sound effects, to produce an amazing a/v project, Reading Rainbow style.
I'm very excited about working with the kids and their writing/art teacher on this. I'll start after the winter break. In the meantime, I'll be doing the project myself. Now to collect a narrative that took place over 50 years ago...
