An Observation
Only about one month and one week until the days start getting longer.
No wonder so many holidays take place around the time of the winter solstice (and none around the summer solstice): it's time to celebrate! Yeah, baby, the days will be getting longer!
(Could you guess that I'd be peeved by the switch back to standard time? I know there are good arguments both for and against the yearly time changes, but, personally, I'd be so happy if there were more daylight in the evening hours. But, that's mostly because I am too groggy in the early morning to care whether it's light out or not.)
This year I have been able (for the first time, I believe) to put a positive spin on the earlier darkness: we can build a fire in our little chiminea earlier, and W can enjoy it before nodding off. (Being such a morning person, he's asleep sometimes hours earlier than me.)
So, here's a fallish toast:
To warm fires and the urge to nest. Cheers!
