Web Projects: Beyond This Site

Ohio University English Department Website

English Department Screenshot

During the 2003-04 academic year, the department computer consultants redesigned the entire website. Features new to this redesign include standards-compliant HTML and CSS coding, seasonal rotating images, searchable databases for faculty pages and course descriptions, and a news section powered by MovableType. Although all the consultants worked together and suggested improvements/variations on each new element, my primary responsibility was the database development, coding, and maintenance.

HalfDrunkMuse Poetry Ezine

Since 1999, I have been the editor, web designer, and publicist of this small but very successful ezine. Currently the site receives anywhere between 40 and 100 visitors a day, with an average of 1200 - 1500 visitors a month. Although the site is hosted on a Windows server and thus uses ASP coding, it will move to a Linux server this summer to take advantage of PHP coding and MySQL databases.

Another Muse

This parody/procrastination site was launched in October 2003. Site content includes a Procrastinator's Dictionary, Theses on Life, and other small but distinct content sections. The site uses PHP/MySQL, but much of that coding was done prior to my work on the OU English Department site and is need of upgrade to demonstrate the new skills/coding I learned.

Hypertext (on AnotherMuse.com)

Hypertext

Hypertext is an essay on the impact of HTML on the English language. The site is written as a hypertextual essay, meaning there is no set navigational structure; readers choose in-text links to create a choose-your-own adventure reading experience. For sanity's sake, there is a site map with all pages listed.

Another Muse Design

Another Muse Design

The site content is currently under development and the site should be officially launched (submitted to search engines, advertised, etc) by Fall 2004.

FanFair @ AnotherMuse

FanFair Screenshot

Although a subdomain on my Another Muse site, FanFair is a distinct entity that will be more fully developed in Summer 2004. The site will become a series of miniature fan sites for the authors I particularly enjoy, and the content will be a mix of my own comments/reviews and links to other, more extensive fan sites. The intention is not to duplicate existing material online, but to create a friendly (if occasionally sarcastic) introduction to great writers and available resources.

Millertarized.com

Yes, this is also under development. In summer 2004 it will be moved to its own domain: www.millertarized.com. It is currently on Another Muse to facilitate design while I work out some hosting possibilities. Content currently on my OU-hosted site will be moved to this domain and some content from the main Another Muse site will also be transferred here.

Cicero Assignment Site

A site designed from a paper I wrote for a Latin course; the purpose of the site is to engage students in critical analysis of good/bad site design and to prepare them for their own paper-to-website adaptations.
