From the Sheboygan Press:  Do You Remember? . . .

 50 Years Ago Today -- Feb. 4, 1927

A veteran of the Civil War, one who fought during one of the
greatest battles the world has ever seen --  Gettysburg -- is today
observing his 82nd birthday anniversary.  He is Charles Graefe,
1909 N. 7th Street, who was born in Saxony, Germany, and who came
to Sheboygan when only six years old.  [1855]
On his march to the sea with Sherman, he was wounded in his
right arm while charging a rebel battery.  A large part of the
muscle was torn from his arm and gangrene set in at once.  He
was confined to a hospital for 11 months and this would has proven
so troublesome that he has been incapacitated for life.  Yet, in
spite of his advanced age, he still is quite active.
