EH 260: Introduction to Environmental Health and Safety

Course Description: This course will introduce the student to the basic elements of environmental health and safety. The students will discover a variety of sometimes disparate topics dealing with public health matters related to the individual's environment. Problem identification, assessment, and management will be covered.
Course Objectives: Educate the student about universal aspects of the macro- and micro-environment, public and occupational health, and safety. Introduce content areas of the environmental sciences and industrial hygiene majors. Model key environmental health and safety issues and problem resolution.
Course Format: Lectures, Videos, Web Modules, Guest Lectures, & Group Discussion
Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classroom sessions unless prior arrangements have been made. Each student will be held responsible for material content as presented in class or on the web, including syllabus changes and assignments made by the instructor in class. Grade disputes will be considered subjectively with respect to the student's attendance record.
Grading and testing: Grades will be assigned in accordance with requirements in the OU catalog. There will be four (4) in-class quizzes and a comprehensive final exam. The four quizzes will each be worth 20% of the course grade, with the remaining 20% allocated to final exam result. No make-up exams or labs will be offered unless special circumstances apply and can be documented.
