PBIO 508 Research Presentation
During September you should go to
the current periodicals section of Alden Library and familiarize yourself
with the journals that publish papers that are in the area of Vascular
Plant Morphology. You will choose a paper that has been published within
the past 12 months to present in the last week of classes. Choose something
that is of interest to you and ask GWR if it is appropriate for presentation
to the class. Have your paper chosen and approved by October 12.
Detailed instructions for preparing
the presentation:
-
Presentations will be during laboratory period on the last
three days of class.
-
Each Presentation will be 10 - 12 minutes long, and will
be followed by questions and comments from the audience.
-
Use what ever graphics and teaching aids you think are appropriate
for a professional presentation. The computer/digital projector (linked
to the internet) will be available for your use. You may prepare
Power Point slides and project the file from the S: drive, if you wish.
If you choose a paper that is posted on the web as a PDF file, the graphics
will already be prepared for you. Simply project the figures either
from the web, or from a file that you have downloaded already (for speed
of display).
-
When organizing your material for presentation, remember
to design your material for an audience of general botanists who are not
familiar with the topic.
-
Your presentation should contain three types of information.
These are 1) a summary of the contents of the paper, 2) your interpretation
of the importance of the work, and 3) an analysis of the strengths and
weaknesses of the work.
-
Feel free to ask me any specific questions that are not addressed
above.
Order of Presentations: An agenda of presentations
will be compiled when all titles have been received. You may choose
from the time slots available in the order in which your e-mails were received.
