That Reggae Thing
... - recorded June 1999
The basic riff for this tune turned up one day when Chris
Monti, Dan Murphy, and I were playing in my Mom's basement in March, 1998.
The tune had since gone through several periods of teething (at one
point it even segued into "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath!). To this
day, it still has no "format" in the proper sense. It's always improvised,
and has always been one of my favorite things to play.
This very
track was featured in a documentary by SUNY Buffalo about "crosswalk
islands". More than you thought you could know about crossing
the street... |

Something Newer - recorded December, 2002
The best part
about music, when it happens, is that it happens. I'm glad
Blue Toad Flax still occasionally happens whenever we get a chance to get
together.
This track
has Nick, whose last name we can't mention for contractual obligations,
playing bass. |

Bub - recorded June, 1999
A Nudenburg original, named after a fine feline of the same name. The
cat pictured is actually my mom's cat. The most memorable thing about
this song to my memory happened one night while playing at the Red Rocks
in East Greenwich, RI. The gig didn't have a great feel, but that all
changed when this bizarre new age woman stood up (everyone else in the joint
was sitting, mind you), and started dancing in a similarly bizzare manner.
If we weren't playing, I'm sure we'd have been scratching our heads... |

Sound Check - recorded June, 1999
This "song" is actually just what the title suggests, the soundcheck.
We were playing at a back yard party with an amazing view of the ocean
on a beautiful late spring day. The real entertainment of the day
was trying to figure out why we didn't have electricity for about 30 minutes
while we were setting up the equipment. It just came on eventually...somehow. |

Something Older - recorded December 30, 1998 "The lost track" from when the days were
younger...

Take Five - recorded June,1999
The Blue Toad Flax rendition of the classic peice from the Dave
Brubeck Quartet's "Time Out" album, circa 1959.
Listen to the Brubeck version... then try to play the drum solo
(preferably on a vintage set of Ludwig's). From then on you will
always be in awe of Joe Morello. |

My Favorite Things (video) - recorded Summer,
1999
Here's a glimpse
of the esoteric cacophony that goes on at Dogtone. I blame Dick for
getting us interested in Coltrane, and playing in times other than 4/4.
Beware people older than you, they know stuff...
