Highlights
2006: Conducted a general inventory of thousands of pieces of uncataloged microform materials at Ohio University Libraries. Initiated a movement among the library’s subject bibliographers to examine the uncataloged microform collections, identify items for de-selection, and set processing priorities among the remaining collections. Completed the cataloging of approximately 800 Southeast Asian serials on microfiche, many in the Indonesian language and held by few or no other OCLC member libraries. Developed and supervised a process combining the skills of copy catalogers with automatic, machine-driven record editing, to allow fast and accurate cataloging of hundreds of English language monographs on microfiche.
2005-06: Managed the transition from in-house, title-by-title Marc cataloging of electronic serials to use of Marc records supplied by the vendor Serials Solutions. Researched and presented a formal proposal to the Dean of Libraries and other stakeholders, successfully arguing for the devotion of a portion of the library’s budget to this vendor service. Served as the primary vendor contact, managed the record merging and replacement process, and worked with public service staff to facilitate a smooth transition.
2003-present: Guided Ohio University Libraries cataloging staff through the transition from OCLC’s archaic Passport cataloging software to its modern Connexion software, serving as trainer, troubleshooter, and general resource person. Continue to develop macros, scripts and programs to increase the efficiency of all manner of technical services tasks.
