Psychology 789

Instructor: Ben Ogles Phone: 593-1077 (office); 797-4903 (home)

Class Times: Weekly group meeting and individual appointments for each hour of therapy,

evaluation, or assessment.

Readings: Assigned as needed on a case by case basis. Prerequisites include readings from Psychology 650, 750A and 750B.

Requirements:

    1. The successful completion of at least one case during this quarter. While the number of hours may vary, approximately five or more is expected.
    2. Attendance of therapy and supervisory sessions.
    3. Videotaping or audiotaping of all therapy sessions.
    4. Preparation for supervision should include:
      1. Previewing videotapes prior to supervision, with selections of segments for review with supervisor.
      2. Identification of technical, clinical and theoretical issues and events for discussion.
      3. Weekly entries in clinical file, including progress notes. Clients’ files must be kept up-to-date at all times.
      4. A case summary should be completed by the end of the quarter.
    5. The student is working under the license of the supervisor; please follow the guidelines for informing the client of supervisory status and always consulting with the supervisor regarding the clinical management of the case. I will co-sign all progress notes and any evaluations or correspondence with outside agencies.
    6. Cases are assigned by the supervisor. Each must be completed or transferred as directed by the supervisor. Psychological services may be needed beyond the end of the quarter and in some instances the student will need to see the client until the case is completed.
    7. A weekly one-hour clinical staffing meeting with an advanced practicum team will also be scheduled to discuss clinic procedures, new referrals and treatment and assessment issues. Advanced and beginning students will work together to facilitate collaborative learning.
    8. Finally, each student is expected to select one process rating scale (I have a file full of them) to be used in rating one of the sessions. You may exchange tapes with another student and rate each other if you wish.

Grading: Grades are based upon the above requirements.
