On September 14, you will have the chance to return to Pepperland, when the Beatles animated classic "Yellow Submarine" returns on home video ($19.98) and DVD ($29.98).
This animated psychedelic adventure brings the Beatles to Pepperland to help thwart the dreadful Blue Meanies, who have taken over. It's up to the fab four to help Old Fred save the day. Armed only with their classic songs, the Beatles show the Meanies that "All You Need is Love."
Originally released in 1968, "Yellow Submarine" was available for a short time on home video in the mid and late 80's, but has been out of print ever since. This latest release, however, will give a new look and sound to the Beatles classic, as both the film and the soundtrack have been restored with the latest digital technology.
| For those with the capability, the DVD will be the way to go, as it will include the behind the scenes featurette "The Mod Odyssey" and the original theatrical trailer. The DVD will also feature interviews, photos and storyboard sequences not included on the home video. |

Both the home video and DVD will include the "Hey Bulldog" sequence, which was removed from the film before its American release in 1968. It has been restored to its proper place in the film, making this latest release the definitive version.
An updated "Songtrack" CD will also be released on September 14 as part of the massive marketing campaign.
"Basically anything that's yellow," joked Beatle spokesman Geoff Baker when questioned about the "Yellow Submarine" merchandising.
Actually that isn't far
from the truth, as there are plans for everything from cookie
jars and lava lamps to action figures and model kits. There will
even be a U.S. postage stamp, thanks to the postal service's "Celebrate
the Century" stamp series. The Beatles were selected in a
nationwide vote last spring, and will use the honor to help promote
"Yellow Submarine." As John Lennon once sang, "All You Need is Love." In September, the Beatles will show that a marketing strategy and an ever growing fan base doesn't hurt either.
