Things you need to know about FR111, FR112, FR113:

FR111
Offered ONLY:
Fall quarter
Winter quarter
Summer Session 1

FR112
Offered ONLY:
Winter quarter
Spring quarter
Summer Session 2

FR113
Offered ONLY:
Fall quarter
Spring quarter

1. If you never had any French before you need to start with FR111 because all the classes are entirely conducted in French and if you were to start with FR112 or FR113, you would be totally lost.

2.You may not take FR111, FR112,
FR113 if you passed FR199, FR211, FR212, FR213 or any 300-level or 400-level French course.

3. FR111,
FR112 and FR113 are sequential courses. They have to be taken IN THAT ORDER. For example, you may NOT take FR112 first then FR111 second. Once you passed a higher-level course, you may NOT go back to a lower-level course. Do not skip a level! If you do, you run the risk of NOT fulfilling your language requirement.

4. You cannot take any combination of FR111,
FR112, FR113 during the same quarter. They need to be taken one after the other.

5. You are allowed to retake a course, but you can only retake that course before continuing with the higher levels.

Example:
John Doe took FR111 during his 1st quarter, scored a B. He then took FR112 during his 2nd quarter and scored a D. During his 3rd quarter he took FR113 and got a B. John Doe cannot retake FR112 during his 4th (5th, etc) quarter. He should have retaken FR112 BEFORE taking and passing FR113.

6. Know what your college's requirements are! The College of Arts and Sciences requires
that you successfully complete two years (six quarters) of foreign language equivalent to college level. If you never had French before it means FR111 + FR112 + FR113 + FR211 + FR212 + FR213 : in that order!  If you skip one class in the middle, you will have to take FR341 (only offered in the fall).

7. If you are a graduate student, you cannot register for FR111, FR112, FR113. Instead you have to register for FR511, FR512, FR513 (via permission only). Please contact Brigitte Moretti-Coski (moretti@ohio.edu) for a complete set of description of the process.

Things you need to know about FR199:

1. FR199 is only offered in the fall.

2. FR199 is an accelerated course wich prepares students for FR211. If you do not intend to take FR211, FR199 is a waste of time and money!

3. Note that FR199 fulfills no part of any Ohio University language requirement. It merely prepares you to enter the second year of the language requirement sequence.

4. FR199 is reserved for incoming Freshmen who receive the appropriate score on the PLACE test. If you are not an incoming Freshman, you might be able to take the PLACE test to determine your level. For more info, please contact Brigitte Moretti-Coski (moretti@ohio.edu)
