They tell me you are kind and I believe them, for I have
        met your many people and felt the warmth of
        their hospitality.
And they tell me you are harsh and I answer: Yes, it is
        true, I have seen those who make their only living
        by using their very own hands.
And they tell me you are prosperous and my reply is: I
        have seen the bustling harbors and the booming
        markets in your interior.
And having replied, I turn one more time to those who
        mock this city, and so I return the favor back to them
        saying:
Come and show to me another city so proud of its existence
        and its ability to bring pleasure to people living all
        around the world.
Spreading the word of its own beauty round about the world,
        here is one city, on one island, standing out above all
        others in the world.
Fierce as a soldier with his life hanging by a thread, cunning as
        a fox pitted against his prey.
        Barehanded,
        Fishing,
        Planting,
        Growing,
        Gambling, losing, gambling,
Under the sun, dripping wet with the ocean, smiling with a 
        golden smile,
Under the awesome burden to please, laughing as a young
        man laughs,
Laughing even as a high-strung gambler laughs who has never
        lost a hand,
Bragging, and laughing that under his skin is the veins, and in them
        the lifeline of the people.
                Laughing!
Laughing the beautiful, friendly, amazing laughter of Youth,
        high-spirited, hard working, proud to be Tourist Center,
        Cement Maker, Grower of Fruits, Player with Ports,
        and Center of Business to the Nation.
