The
Universidad Austral de Chile is located in Valdivia, Chile.
Valdivia is located in the Lakes Region of the Southern most
country in the world. The UACH is located on the Isla Teja, which
is separated from the rest of Valdivia but the widest river in the
country. You can view a schedule
of events
from the university. Valdivia
is a small, diverse, friendly fishing town located in Chile's
Mediterranean climate region. The town lies twelve hours south of
the capital, Santiago and thirty minutes east of Niebla, the coast
of the Pacific Ocean. Argentina is also never more than a short
bus ride from Chile.
Valdivia's
"centro" offers large city amenities in a small town setting:
government, education, shopping, restaurants, accommodations,
diverse religious choices, entertainment, nightlife, etc. The Isla
Teja offers a history museum that is the pride of Valdivia. The
university, of course, adds a unique aspect to the town.
Anything
in Valdivia, including the Isla Teja, is within walking distance.
However, cheap rides on micro buses and in taxis are plentiful and
run in between the university and the "centro". Valdivia also
offers a grand bus depot, with buses leaving daily to Argentina,
Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and anywhere along Chile's long coast.
Valdivia's airport, although it is a taxi ride there, will take
you anywhere in Chile, specifically to the capital. Cost to travel
to Santiago are: by bus $12,000 pesos (20.00USD) or by air $60,000
pesos (100.00USD).
