Ph.D. in Syracuse University MA and BA in Seoul National University (South Korea) My
research interests lie in urban and economic geography, although they
spill over into many other areas, including development studies and
Asian studies. I am particularly interested in globalization, multinational
corporations, and the urban economy. I have examined global auto
companies’ operations in India – Eleven of the world’s largest auto
companies have set up production lines in India since the 1993 deregulation!
I have also done research on Global Cities, city marketing, and the
globalization of Seoul. I am currently working on two research projects.
One is to examine the integration of the Indian automotive industry
into global auto companies' regional/global production networks. The
other is to write a book on cities and economies in a globalizing world
(under contract for Routledge).
I teach a range of courses from the introductory level to the graduate seminar. The courses that I have taught in the past few years include GEOG 131 Globalization and the Developing World, GEOG 326/526 Urban Geography, GEOG 329/529 World Economic Geography, GEOG 338/538 Southeast Asia, and GEOG 680B Theories of Development.
