Kelly's Ideas About Different
Communication Theories

Communication theory is a very interesting subject. I am a communication major, who has learned that by understanding communication theory I can understand why people communicate the way that they do. There is a saying that "Everything happens for a reason," and communication theory is a way to apply reason to why things happen the way they do. After studying communication theory in depth for a quarter in the fall, I found that understanding why we communicate the way we do can help me to be a more effective communicator. Agenda-setting, Social Judgement Theory, and Uncertainty Reduction Theory are only three theories that explain communication. After reading about these theories it will become clear that there are many more theories that will help you to be an effective communicator also.
