The thinking of the hostess reveals her own perception concerning what should please her guests. A future bride should make note of what the hostess offers to guests at the shower. In that way a future bride can get a better sense for what sort of wedding favors would be most appreciated by her guests.
Now certainly not every wedding guest will have the same tastes as the hostess at any of the bridal showers. Not every guest reacts in the same way to any unique wedding favor. Still, a future bride can learn from the choices made by a shower hostess what not to consider as a wedding favor.
Suppose, for example, that the hostess is a real health food “nut.” Suppose that she has decided against the use of candy at the bridal shower. Suppose that she has instead treated her guests to small bags of granola. That should be a signal to the bride. She might need to think twice before using candy in any wedding favors.
Of course, a bride should not let the tastes of one guest dictate her selection of wedding favors. In the above example, a future bride who wanted to provide her guests with candy or edible wedding favors could consider an original way for presenting that candy. Candy presented in a very original way would seem ready for inclusion in the list of favor ideas.
A bridal shower helps a bride to learn something more about all of the guests, not just the shower hostess. Each of those guests brings to the shower something for the future bride. Their shower gift indicates what they feel the bride would appreciate. Many times that shower gift can also indicate what sort of wedding favor any one of the shower guests might appreciate.
Suppose, for example, that the guests have all decided to bring something that
the future bride can use in the kitchen. If that is the case, a bride should
think seriously about using kitchen items as wedding favors. She might, for
example, want to give each guest a pair of salt and pepper shakers.
