AUTHORIZATION CONFIRMED: TRANSMISSION BEGINS
Scenario 2: Get the I'lora... (Part I)
Background:The Kra'Vak attack carrier I'loraand her escorts had been raising havoc raiding shipping and outposts in ESU, NAC, and NSL space for three weeks in June of 2186. In the first week of July the alien raiding force hit two outposts in ESU space. Still reeling from the fiasco off of Caleb, the ESU hastily assembled a task group to intercept and destroy the I'lora.
Unfortunately, the force assembled was completely inadequate for the task at hand. Admiral Marco Tupanin realized this, but orders were orders, and he thought that he might get lucky. he didn't.

Admiral Yi, Novgorod class FF
Setup:Place the fleets in opposite corners, with the ESU fleet heading straight at the Kra'Vak force. The Kra'Vak should be on a course for the opposite end of the table. The starting velociites are up to the players, within reason. The Kra'Vak fleet has not yet encountered any serious opposition, and should be proceeding at a relatively leisurely pace (between 4-6). The ESU fleet realizes that this is a suicide mission, but its commander knows that he will be executed if he doesn't fight. They will attempt to close as quickly as possible in order to inflict as much damage as they can before they die. A starting velocity between 8-10 is recommended (overshooting the target is not a good thing, Admiral).
Victory Conditions:The ESU wins a decisive victory if they destroy the I'lora. They win a marginal victory if she has to take two threshold checks. Anything else is a defeat for the ESU.
The Real Outcome:As expected by its commander, the ESU force was almost completely destroyed by the kra'Vak force, only the Krazny Oktaybr and the Admiral Yi escaping to limp back to their starbase. Admiral Tupanin was killed aboard his flagship early in the engagement, and didn't live long enough to see that the mission was somewhat successful. A lucky hit by one of the strike cruiser's pulse torpedoes disabled I'lora's hyperdrive, trapping her in deep space long enough for the combined task force the NAC and NSL were assembling to catch up with her.
