Drawing: Process and Synthesis/ Art 118
Course Summary
Drawing: Process and Synthesis is part of the Foundations in Art sequence
at Ohio University. The purpose of this course is to explore drawing
from methodological, conceptual, and metaphorical perspectives. A series
of critiques, group discussions, research and information gathering assignments,
lectures and demonstrations complement studio work.
You will use analysis and research to facilitate a problem solving approach
to drawing. During the course you should become increasingly self-directed.
The ability to articulate intent, expand and incorporate vocabulary, converse
and synthesize will be stressed. You will make artworks based upon conceptual,
imagistic, and process based systems.
Experimentation will be emphasized, including exercises in scale, collaboration,
non-traditional materials, mark making and technique. You will be given
specific assignments with broad parameters for interpretation, begin
to realize “content” in art and develop a personal visual
language.
