The purpose of this paper is to compare the issues and poetic strategies of poets of two different periods: A. the Chicano Movement and B. the feminist response to the Movement poets.

Write an essay in which you compare two (or more) of the poets we have read so far this quarter. If possible, focus on one specific issue each poet has dealt with in his or her work. Consider the following:

• What's at stake in the issue?
• What is each poet's position?
• How do their respective positions imply ideas and strategies regarding the relationship(s) between poetry and social life?
• Does the form of their poetry in any way reflect their differences on the issue you discuss?

While you must be concise, you must also give brief and pointed examples (quotations from the texts, including Gonzales Message to Aztlán) to support your claims.
