Fiddletown is off of California State Route 49 about 5 miles east of Plymouth
in Amador County.
It got its name from the miners who used to play their fiddles in their spare
time.
In June 2003 I received an email from a lady who saw this page and
wrote to inform me that she grew up five miles outside of Fiddletown. She
reports that the town hasn't changed much since when she was a child, except for
the big base fiddle on top of the "town hall," which underwent a refurbishment
in mid-2002.

This photo of the former blacksmith wagon shop appears on
page 203 of Florin's book (1971). The sign in front indicates it was a
museum at the time of this photo.

The same building as above appears at right in this photo.
It doesn't appear to be a museum anymore. Photo taken April 11, 1993. |

Fiddletown should have a fiddle, shouldn't it? |
