Amador City is one of the many ghost towns located along California Highway
49, which was given that number to commemorate the 49'ers who came to California
in droves beginning in 1849. It is in Calaveras County about 30 miles east of Sacramento.

| This photo of the Imperial Hotel appears on page 157 of
Florin's book (1971). The "Imperial Hotel" sign is readable above the
door to the left of the tree. |

This is a photo of the same building taken by me on April
11, 1993. The town is very busy and not very ghostly, and the Imperial
Hotel sign is still present between the two white doors just left of the
center of this photo. |

This photo runs across the fold between pages
38 and 39 in Carter's book (1971). Note the Ford Mustang convertible in
the left foreground. |

This is the same building taken by me on April
11, 1993. It didn't look to be quite the shopping center it appeared
to be in the photo above. |

This is a photo of the same street as above, but
from the other end. The long white building in the photo above is
present here right about in the center of the picture. The two
buildings to its left with the stair-step false fronts are clearly visible
here and, and the closer one is also visible in the top two photos. |
