Listed below are a few comments from people that participated in the YEPE trip:

"Holbox was cool. It didn't shut down at dusk and the townspeople were out a long time. That's the way it should be. I felt comfortable and had fun."

"If you could have seen the kids with the people who live there but didn't speak the same language - how they tried to communicate using sign language, and teaching each other words in their own language." (Jan Castle quoted from the Athens Messanger)

"The kids saw how other people live in other cultures, how people are different than you yet the same underneath."

"My favorite part of the trip was playing basketball with the Mexican kids in Holbox. It was amazing and not quite what I expected."

"It was interesting to see how, (even if) they (Mexicans) might have a bad opinion of the U.S. as a whole, they still treated us as individuals." (Jon Wood quoted from the Athens Messanger)

"If I wanted my class to know one thing about the trip, it would be about the culture. Keep minds open because not every culture is like ours. If you visit a different country and say 'Wow! That's weird.' But that's what they do. It's their culture. It's normal for them."

"Don't take everything for granted; be more open minded to different things."

"Cancun was weird. I didn't quite like it. It wasn't Mexico. It was a slice of America. It was a world of its own. I didn't like the way it felt. It was very commercial."

"Before going to Mexico, I thought, 'This country doesn't have as much money as America.' But they are doing well off, maybe better than we are."

"The best part was the night we stayed on the beach and slept in a hammock." (Sammie Jones quoted from the Athens Messenger)

"EcoColors tour company did an outstanding job!"

"I learned that if there is a hurricane, the safest place to be is low to the ground."

"I had fun on the trip and would go again in a heartbeat!"
