We watched the
video "Bill Nye- Flight" for background information. From
this the kids got an introduction to the theories of flight,
air pressure, lift and the relationship between speed and
flight. We furthered our quest to the internet and visited
Bill
Nye's website.
There, we searched for links to Flight sites.
We briefly
visted each flight site (as seen on the right) and made
notes about what we found. Then I added a file to Favorites
entitled Flight. I put the URLs of the Nye sites in that
folder. Students were assigned computer time (as a work
station throughout the week) to explore the links in
depth.
Children were
invited to bring URLs of sites that they found at home to
add to our flight site folder.
One favorite
site was the Webquest site done by colleuges in the Tech
Program at Ohio University. Their Paper
Airplane Webquest provided
great support information, as well as terrific sites for
paper airplane plans.
Another
fantastic site was Off
to a Flying Start.
This site was built by NASA for grades K-2. It reviews the
basic principles of flight and gives several projects ideas
for the classroom.
