As with all of Brahms's clarinet works, this was written for Richard Mühlfeld | |
Brahms wrote this at the same time as his Trio, op. 114 (Clarinet, 'Cello, & Piano) | |
The edition also contains the clarinet part written for viola | |
Movement I is in sonata form; movement IV is theme and variations | |
Late Romantic style: virtuosic, gypsy influence, chromaticism, dark and introverted character, theme and variations, experimentation with form in movement III, harmonies |
