The Coonskin Library
celebrated its 200th Anniversary in 2004. During the year the
Coonskin Library Museum was fortunate to have on loan from Ohio University's
Alden Library Archives 12 of the Coonskin Library Books from the Dover Library
Association, the portion of the library that split from the originally
established Ames Library in 1830.
An exhibit of 15 books was also borrowed later from the Ames Collection
at the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus.
During that year,
members of Pam Kasler's 4th grade class of the Amesville Elementary
School located, rehearsed and presented Nellie Woolley's Coonskin Library
Play. This play was first
presented at Ames-Bern High School in 1954. Ms. Kasler's forth graders
presented their play first at the 200th Anniversary Celebration
April 23rd during National Library Week and again Memorial Day
Weekend at the Ames-Bern High School Alumni Banquet. Attending the banquet were
6 original cast members and two who assisted with the production.
The operation of the Coonskin Library is totally
dependent on the generosity of local residents, Ames-Bern and Federal-Hocking
Alumni, museum visitors, sponsors, bequests, and grants. The more popular
categories of support are listed below on a form that you can print, tear off,
and return with your contribution.
