Interesting facts

On a glorious spring day, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred ninety five, three weary travelers meet for the first time on a battlefield... it was a ten lane battlefield.  Two of the travelers, a tall, compassionate statesman and a charming rogue scholar, were in search of a third to begin a monumental journey known as off campus living within the second year of their tenure in the holy land.  The third traveler, a courageous woodsman, agreed to begin this journey...and so it began.
The travelers began this journey or walk-about, and only through the tribulations of this journey will the vision of Boar come into clarity.  The travelers will be tempted by a dark one for one and a half years.  The dark one will use deception and chicanery to tempt the travelers into many sinful acts and try to steal the very souls of the Boar.  A war know as the Great Water War commenced.  The travelers fought tooth and nail, and only through blood and sweat the travelers were able to exile the dark one for all time, and these dark times came to an end.
Only through this tribulation will the golden age of the boar will arise, like a phoenix from the ashes of disaster.  During this dark time of war, the travelers will find true friendship with two other travelers, a elder wise man whom was a master chef and a brave visionary with blood ties whom will put a name to the idea which hath already formed in friendship.
Little did the travelers know where their destiny would lead them and it was only destiny that would lead them to a place of honor and brotherhood (including the sister).  This place is known throughout history as the Boar's Nest, and these five travelers (founding fathers) called it home for over a year.  This sanctuary was a symbol for friends and family of the boar as a safe house, strength, unity and honor.  In the Golden Age of the Boar, it was an oasis in a desert of strife and tyranny.  To the enemies of the Boar, it was an impenetrable fortress, guarded by the will of many strong men and women.
During this Golden age of the Boar, the Nest will see an addition of five honorary members, one of the five being a woman of great strength and compassion.  The other four men, pure of heart, will take up the journey with the travelers like they started the walk-about themselves with the other three on that glorious spring day.
This has been a brief history, or one may call legend, of the Boar's Nest.  As the elder historian of the boar, I hope this sheds some insight into the lives of these destined ten souls that began a journey together that they and many others will not soon forget.

Listed below is interesting information about the Boar's Nest

Boar's Nest Coat of Arms:
The Coat of Arms symbolizes the unity of brotherhood (and sister).  It's red coloring symbolizes blood bond and commitment we have for one another.  The yellow stands for chivalry and honesty.  The helm stands for the defense of morals and of each other.  The boar is important to the coat of arms.  The boar symbolizes a ferocious determination for inner codes to be respected.  Nobody can impose their will on a boar unless the boar decides to let them.  The boar is steadfast and intelligent, strong and gentle.

Boar's Nest Tree:
The tree of the Boar's Nest is the Giant Sequoias.  Tough and resilient, sequoias endure hardships that can kill other trees. Their thick, spongy bark, one-to-two feet thick, protects them from insects and fires. Many trees show scars of their long lives, with bark peppered with charred areas and pocked by 10- to 20-foot vertical scars at their bases. Trees struck and hollowed by lightning, but still alive, are common in many groves.  Sequoias are among the largest living beings on earth. While average mature sequoias are about 250 feet tall, and 15 feet in diameter, the tallest trees exceed 300 feet in height, and some specimens reach a diameter of 40 feet at the base.   For all their huge size, the trees have humble beginnings. The egg shaped cones, which take two years to mature, are rarely more than three inches long, and they nurture incredibly tiny seeds-3,000 weigh no more than an ounce.
In many ways we in the Boar's Nest feel this great tree symbolizes our own development in this life, I hope one can really see the parallels to our lives.  This information on the Sequoias was taken from the USDA forest service page.

Boar's Nest Song:
This is a tough one for the BN to vote on, hence we have two songs.  The two songs that have deep meaning for its members are Glory Days, by Bruce Springstein, and Small Town, John Mellencamp.  These songs represent all the good times in Oxford, Ohio that we shared together.  When these songs come on you can always tell BN members because of the loud singing and dancing.

Boar's Nest Elixers:
When BN members are enjoying a drink made of barely and hops, no question it must be a Coors Light.  There are to official drinks besides Coors Light for the Nest.  The two drinks are Snake Bites and Jagermeister.  A Snake Bite is a drink made of Yukon Jack and Lemon Juice (introduced by Kelly Mills, Simon's bro).
