PCOS

PCOS: The Hidden Epidemic by Dr. Samuel Thatcher

In my opinion, and that of many other women I have talked to, this is the best book available on PCOS. It is extremely informative about all aspects of the syndrome, including dieting, pregnancy, medications, and alternative treatment. It is a large book, and may seem overwhelming at first, but it is a must read for anyone who want to know more about this syndrome.

Living with PCOS by Angie Best-Boss

Angie is a cyster trying to live with PCOS. Although her book might not be suitable for those of us with advanced knowledge of PCOS, it is an excellent resource for the beginner. It has a good herbal section and is very easy to read.

PCOS: A Woman's Guide by Colette Harris

Colette's book was the first book on PCOS designed for the woman who has PCOS. Although this book comes up short is some areas, it offers a good overview of what it is like to live with PCOS.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome by Gabor T. Kovacs

This book is quite expensive and written for medical practitioners, but it is an excllent source for women interested in learning more about reproductive technologies and PCOS.

Syndrome X

Syndrome X: Managing Insulin Resistance by

This book is fantastic! There is a whole chapter on PCOS and IR. It is detailed, thorough, and has a great deal of information about weight loss and PCOS. I recommend this book to anyone struggling with their weight and trying to make sense of IR.

Syndrome X: Overcoming the Silent Killer that Can Give You a Heart Attack by Gerald Reaven

Dr. Reaven spoke at the 2001 PCOSA Conference. He was wonderful. Although he does not know that much about PCOS itself, he admits, he does know a great deal about Syndrome X and its deadly affects. He is often referred to as the "Father of Syndrome X," and this book is a good place to start if you want to know about this syndrome.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome by Gabor T. Kovacs

Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler

I can't say enough good things about this book. I never knew that you could tell so much about your body by just observing it. This is the definitive book on helping women understand their basal body temperature, cervical mucous, and cervical position. I got pregnant by using this book. It is so easy. I recommend this book to everyone, not just those of us who are trying to conceive. Give it to your daughters, your nieces, you cousins, your best friends. It is a must have book!

A book filled with emotional and very personal stories, poem, and essays about trying to concieve. It is both inspiring and informative, as the title suggests. A good read if your feeling blue about this long, long road.

Barren in the Promised Land by Elaine Tyler May

I found this wonderful book when I was doing research for a PCOS paper. It explores the pressure that women and couples are made to feel in our society for not being able to have and maybe not even wanting to have children. It is a good read.
