Flagler Beach, Florida

Flagler Beach, Florida is one of my favorite places to vacation.  Even when my kids were young, we often stopped there as we drove down I-95.  I think it as the first and closest beach area I noticed once we entered FL.  Although this year, I decided to drive west on A1A driving through St Augustine, and as I was driving around town, I took this picture of a tree lined street, but believe me it looked much better in person.  St Augustine is the oldest city in Florida, and if you ever visit there, you'll notice a large number of trees all over the city, which is not very typical of cities in Florida.

On this trip while visiting Flagler, I took more pictures than usual because I knew I'd be doing this page, and wanted to share with others this small coastal town in Florida, that through the years, I've came to adopt as one of my favorite places to visit.  As I was taking pictures around town, I saw this small orange tree in a yard, and for those of you that happen to live in the northern part of United States, you may have never seen one before.

So... listed below are some pictures of Flagler.  I believe some of them will remind you of Flagler Beach if you have spent any time there. You should try to view most of them if you love the ocean like I do.  Someday I may own a house there so I can enjoy Flagler most of the year, ofcourse it all depends if I win the Ohio Lottery.

Recently, the headlines were "Hurricane Frances tears up Flagler Pier". About 140 feet of the wooden pier was washed away just before high tide on Saturday. "The whole bottom just fell off" as reported by a Flagler resident who witnessed the collapse. "It collapsed like there was an earthquake underneath it." Just after this interview, the roof flew off of the two-story Bank of America building across the street from the pier.

After hearing and reading news stories like this, I decided to add some Flagler Pier images that I had taken in early 2003 to the list below, and adding the latest images taken January 2005.  Many thanks to Richard Wentworth for his stories and experiences about the old Flagler Pier.
