 Lucent Technologies

Lucent Technologies was created in 1996 after AT&T's decision to split into three separate companies. Lucent combines the systems and technology units that were formerly a part of AT&T with the research and development capabilities of Bell Labs. Bell Labs is the "innovations engine" of Lucent Technologies. Lucent currently develops designs, manufactures and services public and private networks, business and consumer communications systems and microelectronic components. Lucent is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of communications systems.

In September 1995, AT&T make a remarkable decision to separate itself from its equipment manufacturing businesses. Analysis praised this decision sighting that AT&T could focus better on AT&T and also free Lucent to sell products and systems to carriers that competed with AT&T's communication's business.

Lucent Technologies is a fortune 40 company. The revenue for the company extends beyond 23.3 billion. There are offices or distributors in more that 90 countries and territories. There is no wonder to the accomplishments that Lucent has attained in the past two years. Lucent has two mission statements:

Lucent has devised a useful strategy in order to obtain their mission.

    1. Wireless Communications
    2. Networking Software
    3. Multimedia convergence
    4. Aggressive but selective globalization

Lucent also is also dedicated to serving the community. Employees volunteer their time and support to community activities.

 In conclusion, Lucent technologies plays a very important part in the telecommunications industry. With their strategy lined out, they are taking the world by storm. Lucent has come out with a variety of new innovations to help lead the telecommunications industry into the next millenium.

Bell Labs are considered leaders in the photonics, microelectronics and software. More that 3,000 telephone switching systems rely on their software.

Lucent and Rockwell have developed a modem that enables high speed Internet download over the standard analog telephone lines without requiring a customer to have ISDN. Audio, video and large graphics will reach the user a much higher speed as long as the user and the Internet Provider has K56flex.

 

4. Lucent Introduces Intelligent Messaging

Lucent provides a new messaging infrastructure called IMA-CA (Intelligent Messaging Architecture-Caller Applications). IMA-CA was designed to make it inexpensive for service providers to provide messaging applications to a large customer base. IMA-CA delivers port capacity and support for up to 500,000 mailboxes.

They will be available as part of Lucent's five applications starter packages.
