To our Elaboration Liklihood Method

Homepage

Richard Petty, an Ohio State psychologist, and his colleague John Cacioppo had developed a study to determine how people tend to be persuaded. Their main focus was to closely examine what it takes alter another person's attitude. They believed that there were two processes one could take to accomplish this.

To further explain Petty's and Cacioppo Elaboration Liklihood Method I have put up a chart explaining the two main processes of persuasion.

These two processes are:

Central Route
Peripheral Route

The central route is considered the message elaboration route. Persuaders using this route are focusing on ideas and information, using this to prove their ideas and swaying other people's ideas to be the same.

The peripheral route works more with cues allowing the persuader to react and adjust to the situation.
