Flora of the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway,
Athens County, Ohio

A Preliminary List Compiled December, 1999

The following species of vascular plants were observed between April, 1997 and October, 1999 in the right-of-way of the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway between the Hocking River bridge (mile 5.0) and Robbins Crossing (mile 16.4). The majority of the identifications were done by Jennifer Dean, Beth Hoberty, and Phil Cantino, with additional observations provided by Christy Carter, Ross McCauley, Marc Mondo, and James Spurney. Voucher specimens of most species have been deposited in the Bartley Herbarium of Ohio University.

Scientific names and family classification follow Gleason and Cronquist's (1991) Manual of Vascular Plants of Northeastern United States and Adjacent Canada. Common names were taken from several sources.

This list is preliminary and will be updated as additional species are found. Many species have undoubtedly been overlooked, particularly grasses, sedges, and rushes.

This project was supported by a grant from the Ohio University Center for Public and Environmental Affairs.

Send additional observations and other comments to Phil Cantino (cantino@ohio.edu).
