Black Student Communication
Caucus
The
Black Student Communication Caucus enforces leadership in the communication
professions. They conduct workshops
for enhancing resumes before going on professional trips. They’ve journeyed to Atlanta, New York,
and Chicago to establish contacts in telecommunications, journalism,
advertising, and public relations.
Last
year BSCC planned an all day conference called “Suite Success,” with guest
speaker Jerry Revish (news anchor in Columbus). He and many other mass media
professionals spent the day advising BSCC members on matters of their respective
professions and discussing internships and extracurricular activities that would
enhance their media endeavors.
On
the off year of the conference we communicators organized a Jazz Fest, scheduled
around Ohio University’s Dad’s Weekend.
Jazz Fest 2000 featured Andre Barton and his quartet and also provided
comestibles and comradery for OU dads.
Aside
from our two big productions, the Black Student Communication Caucus preserves
its name within the community by volunteering with WOUB radio telethons, ReUse
Industries, Habitat for Humanity, and more. Many of our members have also
participated in the community service kickoff and senior Olympics. We understand the true meaning of the
Golden Rule.
Our
organization encourages its members to network. Many of our members are contributing to
student senate, the Athens Post, WOUB radio, Southeast Ohio Magazine, PRSSA, and
our own publication The Flow.
Showcasing events and information surrounding the African American
community, The Flow is our quarterly newsletter. Utilizing communication as a powerful
tool, the mission of the Black Student Communication Caucus is to encourage
personal/professional development and increase participation on the Ohio
University campus and in the Athens community.
