Courses at Ohio University

OPIE 574 Advanced Graduate Writing, syllabus here
This course enables students to develop the writing skills they need to become successful writers in their academic and post-academic careers. Course topics focus on their disciplines and include writing summaries, annotated bibliographies, critiques, and literature reviews. Assignments also address plagiarism and citation of sources. Strategies for reading critically, organizing and developing thoughts, choosing appropriate vocabulary, and revising their own writing are also covered. Whenever possible, students work on assignments they have for discipline-related courses, and individualized attention is given.

ET502 Technical Writing Seminar, syllabus here
Employing texts drawn from engineering, ET502 provides guidance to students who are preparing to write their thesis or dissertation.  Students practice organizing and synthesizing ideas, with special attention being given to correctly using and referencing the work of others. The writing assignments focus on a single topic of the student’s choosing.  Emphasis is placed on the style of writing appropriate for academic discourse in engineering.
