GROUP LABORATORY RESEARCH:
ECOLOGY OF THE ANDES
PBIO 404 (Undergraduate Research)
Winter Quarter, 2001
Purpose: To give upper-level undergraduate students laboratory hands-on experience on real terrestrial or aquatic Andean plant research projects, including data generation, analysis, interpretation, computer graphics expertise and scientific writing. The lab projects will culminate in one or more student co-authored manuscripts submitted for publication. Projects will stem from field studies and materials from the Bolivian Andes field course during Fall-Winter Intersession.
Format: Two 2-hour blocks each week, times arranged during Week 1.
Enrollment/Credits: Up to 15 students; 2 credit hours; field course participants are strongly encouraged to take this course
Eligibility: Open to undergraduate PBIO majors
Prerequisites: Typically students must have at least junior standing and at least 25 hours of PBIO coursework; students who do not have this may register through the instructor(s)
Evaluation of Student Progress: Participation in laboratory activities; attendance; participation in manuscript(s) submitted for publication
