A Week in the Life...

The Ohio University Dance Team, otherwise known as the OUDT, performs at all home football and basketball games as well as other special events. This fall they had the honor of performing at the Horseshoe Stadium in Colombus for the Ohio v. Ohio State footall game. During football season the team joins the Ohio 110 Marching Band in entertaining fans on the sidelines. A good time is always had by all, but during basketball season is when the OUDT really gets to shine! Intricate, carefully planned dances are executed for halftime entertainment and post-game enjoyment. The DT also dances throughout the games on the sidelines to music played by the 110. In order to appear completely in sync, the team must keep a rigorous practice schedule. A typical week during our busy basketball season can be seen here:

Fundraising

As unreal as it may seem, the OUDT is an unfunded organization. We are currently on a long list of sports to receive funding, but that won't happen for years to come. So these girls are not only athletes, but businesswomen and politicans as well!

Throughout the year the OUDT conducts various fundraisers such as waitressing at the Pub, having "Jumpathon"s on Court Street late Friday nights on a mini-trampoline, and car washes at Bob's Supermarket. The DT also makes appearances for local businesses ranging from Signs Now and Dalt's to the University Mall.

All money earned goes to multiple uniform components such as tops, pants, and skirts, shoes (football season's tennis shoes and basketball court dance 'sneakers'), music, summer camps, OUDT official apparel, pom-poms, and various other necessities.

Specialty Book Store is a current sponsor of the DT. If you are interested in contributing to one of the hardest-working organizations on campus, please contact Allison at AllisonOUDT@hotmail.com.

We are constantly recruiting new girls for tryouts held annually in the first couple of weeks of each academic year. "Tryout Tip Days" are usually held two times a year for those who want to learn what's expected of them at tryouts. Flyers are posted about campus and in dorms regarding dates, time, and places. If you have dance background and are interested in becoming a part of this young, yet prestigious, tradition, feel free to contact Allison at AllisonOUDT@hotmail.com.

This group of young ladies is really as closeknit as they appear to be in the pictures. At this risk of sounding cheesy, the OUDT is a great opportunity to meet other women with incredible talents and form lifelong friendships. Of course it's hard work, but who else can honestly say they enjoy all the committments that fill up their day planner? We are lucky enough to be doing something we truly love and that's what makes us so successful!

If you are interested in attending any of the basketball games left in the 1999-2000 season, you can refer to the Ohio University Men's Basketball Schedule.
