There are two
official holidays in the Islamic calendar during which all
government offices, private businesses and educational
institutions are closed. The first of these is Eid Al-Fitr,
the feast of the breaking of the fast, which begins on the 25th day of the month of
Ramadan and lasts through the 5th day of the following
month. Eid Al-Adha, the culmination of the Hajj, begins on the fifth of the month of Zul
Hijjah and continues through the
fifteenth. During this time, millions of Muslims from all
over the world come to Makkah to perform the pilgrimage.
