For this project, you will need: *an old shoebox in good shape *any type of paper that has a surface area greater than that of your box *clear mailing tape *scissors. |

Step 1: Measure your paper so that it covers the area of the box, plus one inch |
![]() |
Step 2: Cut a straight line from the outer edge of the paper to a corner on the narrower end |
![]() |
Step 3: Trim the excess paper from the long edge, leaving about one inch extra |
![]() |
Step 4: Smooth the paper over the long side of the box and tape to the shorter side; that way, nothing of the design of the box underneath can possibly show, even if you make a minor measuring mistake (notice that mounted stamps make good paper weights for rolled paper) |

Step 5: Trim the excess from the short side so that the extra paper from the long side can be folded over to the inside of the box |

Step 6: Tape the overlap from the long side to the inside of the box; repeat steps 2-5 for the other long side, making sure to keep the paper tight against the box as you tape it down. |

Step 7: Now tape the narrow sections of the box, and you will end up with something like this <== |

Step 8: Repeat the same steps for the lid of the box |

Now you have a beautiful,
functional box with no messy tape showing. |

Use any kind of paper you want,
as long as it is big enough. I tend to cover boxes with more
delicate paper with acetate over the decorated paper, as shown <== |

They can be incredibly useful;
this one happens to be the perfect size for my cards and envelopes |

Fold notecards in half and place
over the edge of the box so that one side hangs out. Label the
box with its contents. Enjoy! |
