Attendance and Participation

As with any college course, you are expected to attend class each time it meets. You may miss a maximum of two classes before it counts against you. After the third absence, your final course grade will be lowered by one-third. In other words, at your fourth absence, your A will be lowered to an A-, at your fifth absence to a B+ and so on. YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT MISS A DAY ON WHICH AN ASSIGNMENT OR PRESENTATION IS DUE. IF SO, THAT ASSIGNMENT OR PRESENTATION WILL BE START OUT AS A C. IF YOU MISS THE LAST DAY OF CLASS YOUR GRADE FOR THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL WILL BE AN F.

Since much of this class involves the interaction of students with each other and with me, class participation is an important component of your final grade. This participation takes the form of being prepared for class, answering in-class questions, and contributing to group work. Your final grade can be lowered or raised at my descretion in terms of the amount and quality of your in-class and out-of-class participation.
