TIMETABLE FOR FALL-WINTER INTERSESSION
"GLOBAL STUDIES" FIELD COURSES

Below is a tentative timetable of tasks and events for enrolling and participating in Fall-Winter intersession field courses for the "Global Studies in Plant Biology" program. A separate timetable operates for Summer session field courses. The Fall quarter events pertain specifically to travel preparations and the mandatory workshops, and do not include the PBIO 405 seminar schedule in which students must also participate.  Follow this link for the schedule of Fall quarter workshops required for field course participants.

   Week 1 Information session held on upcoming "Global Studies" programs

Students arrange financial aid for field course tuition and expenses
Spring qtr
   Week 1 Second information session held on upcoming "Global Studies" programs
   Before
   qtr ends
Students enroll in fall quarter seminar (PBIO 405)
Fall qtr [Students enroll and participate in PBIO 405/693 seminar as well as all mandatory concurrent workshops]

   Week 1

Organizational meeting for field course participants to discuss airline fares and ticketing, passports and visas, Study Abroad forms; students download and complete all forms from "Global Studies" web site
   Week 2

Instructors purchase airline tickets; students submit application materials (including fees) for passports during workshop, pre-register for immunizations [for international courses only]
   Weeks 3 - 5 Students return completed Study Abroad forms to instructors, get immunizations and get prescriptions for medications [for international courses only]; workshops on conversational language skills, research methods and hypothesis testing, field course itinerary and packing
   Week 6 Students submit application materials (including fees) for visas during workshop [if needed]
   Weeks 7 - 10 Remaining conversational language workshops, all-day hike at Stroud's Run or nearby natural area, first aid and safety workshops
   Week 10 Last-minute details and Athens-Columbus airport transportation arranged, airline tickets disbursed

Students enroll in Undergraduate Research (PBIO 404)

After exam wk

FIELD COURSE!!!
Winter qtr [Students participate in group PBIO 404 undergraduate research projects]
   Week 1 Organizational meeting for lab research projects and lab times, web page design nights
   Week 2 Debriefing session
   Week 3 Potluck and slide show
   Week 5 Students construct web pages on highlights of field course
   Exam wk Grades turned in for field course
